Indian Government Continues Suppressing Innocent People Of Kashmir
Don’t forget to follow our TikTok, YouTube, Telegram, Twitter, Instagram and Facebook for the latest news.
On August 5th, 2019, through its illegal actions, India unilaterally revoked Article 370 and 35A of the Indian Constitution with the intention to change the demographic structure of the territory.
India’s illegal and unilateral actions of 5th August 2019 were in blatant violation of the United Nations Security Council Resolutions and international law, especially the 4th Geneva Convention.
Since its illegal and unilateral actions of 5 August 2019, India has been implementing an elaborate strategy of military occupation, land confiscation, influx of non-Kashmiris, and creation of alien settlements in IIOJK to suppress the innocent people of Kashmir. The details are as follows :
▪Illegal domicile rules were introduced in Indian Occupied Kashmir in a bid to change the disputed region’s demography to advance its ‘Hindutva’ agenda. India has reportedly issued over 4.2 million domiciles to Hindu population from outsiders to settle in IIOJK.
▪The Delimitation Commission report is the most recent manifestation of Indian nefarious designs to allow disproportionately higher electoral representation to the Hindu population to the detriment of the Muslim population.The Indian Government has made mockery of all norms of democracy, morality and India’s obligations under the UN Security Council Resolutions and international law.
▪New land laws were introduced under Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization allowing “citizens of India” to purchase non-agricultural land in IIOJK without ever having residency or domicile of the occupied territory. The new citizenship law undermines religious, linguistic and cultural identity of Kashmiris and has put employment for native Kashmiris at risk.
▪The Indian Security Forces continue unabated and systematic violations of human rights in Indian Occupied Kashmir by an occupation force of over 900,000 troops turning Kashmir into world’s largest open prison.
▪Since 5 August, 2019, 640 Kashmiris have been martyred by Indian occupation forces in fake encounters and extra-judicial operations. Out of these around 108 persons have been martyred in Indian custody. In 2021, Indian occupation forces have martyred at least 210 Kashmiris in fake encounters or so called “cordon and search operations”. And 119 Kashmiris have been martyred this year alone.
▪Almost entire Kashmiri leadership including Shabbir Ahmed Shah and Masarat Alam Bhat is either detained in crowded jails in India or under house arrest on trumped-up charges.
▪In a recent display of state oppression of legitimate political leadership, an Indian court sentenced Hurriyat leader Muhammad Yasin Malik to life imprisonment on self-contrived and fabricated charges, without any semblance of fair trial, and despite his deteriorating health, in complete defiance of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR). The malicious trial and conviction of Mr. Yasin Malik on trumped-up charges was primarily aimed at silencing him as a human rights and political activist, and to deprive the Kashmiris of their true leadership. In line with the well-documented pattern of Indian behaviour, there was credible risk of “custodial murder” in case of Mr. Yasin Malik.
▪We call upon the international community to continue to demand India to:
1.Acquit Mr. Yasin Malik from all baseless charges and ensure his immediate release from prison so that he can be reunited with his family, recuperate his health and return to normal life.
2. Reverse its unilateral and illegal measures instituted since 5 August 2019;
3. Stop its widespread and systematic human rights violations against the people of Kashmir;
4. Release all Kashmiri political leaders and human rights defenders arrested on fabricated charges.
5. Halt and reverse the demographic changes in the occupied territory; and
6. Grant the Kashmiris their inalienable right to self-determination
A just resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in line with the UNSC resolutions and wishes of the Kashmiri people are the only way forward to ensure durable peace and security in the region.
